Pictures! Pictures!  Pictures!

Here are a few pictures of the dogs that have now been transported.  The rest will be on their way to Chattanooga and from there will head to their foster homes.

UPDATE
4/13/2009

Tests are going well.  Although diagnosed with hook and whip worms and despite their near starvation, the dogs seem to be testing clear of brucellosis and are getting healthier by the day.  We'll update further as tests and transports continue.

Five great organizations are working together with independent rescuers around the country to save 39 surviving Schipperkes seized in a raid on a Kentucky backyard commercial breeder accused of animal cruelty among other charges.

The dogs - which include nursing puppies, pregnant mothers, young adults, and seniors -  are currently in the process of being surrendered to rescue by the Animal Control that originally took custody of and provided legal protection for them. None of these dogs had been cared for properly prior to seizure.  They must undergo extensive testing and full veterinary care.  They will require at minimum:

  • Thorough vet exams

  • Vaccinations

  • Blood test

  • Spay/neuter

  • Parasite testing & treatment

  • Heartworm testing

These are just the basics.  Some or even all could need more.

The minimum expected cost for proper care of EACH dog is $400.00 to $500.00.  With 39 surviving dogs, that is a minimum total of $15,600.00.

This does not include expenses already paid, including almost $2,000.00 in health tests and support sent to aid the shelter for initial care which included initial emergency care for some of the dogs in distress.
