Happy Endings

Here are the furkids who have gone to wonderful forever homes.

MINX - Brooklyn  - NY

Hello, I'm currently fostering a Schipperke and found your rescue website in my efforts to find her the permanent home. If you could post her on your site that would be wonderful.

Below you'll find the information that you requested on your site:

1. Call name: Minx
2. Sex: Female
3. Size/Weight: Small / 10 pounds
4. Spay/Neuter status: Spayed
5. Age: 4-5 years

6. Health status (vaccines, health problems, etc.): No known health problems. The shelter I'm fostering through has had her checked out and she is up-to-date on everything.

7. Anything you know about its personality: When you get to know Minx, you'll soon learn that she is playful and feisty with a silly sense of humor. However, Minx had a rough start to life and needs a loving, patient family who will help her become the Schipperke she was meant to be. Although we see frequent glimmers of her true personality, Minx is very shy and spends a lot of time hiding and is reluctant to allow humans to touch her. She's great with cats and dogs and is currently being fostered in a home with both. She is currently in her third foster home and needs her next move to be into the loving arms of her forever family.

8. Why it needs a new home: Rescued from a terrible hoarding situation in Long Island where the owner was arrested for cruelty and all dogs were seized.

9. Where it is now: Brooklyn, New York in foster care. (Through Social Tees Animal Rescue in New York, New York.)

10. Level of urgency: Medium. She is safe and being well cared for but really needs her forever home.

11. Contact email: jjjbaker@hotmail.com (foster)

Thanks so much--I really appreciate it! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
Jennifer Baker

KASEY KANE - Ft. Wayne,  - IN

i, my name is Kasey Kane.  Yes Kasey Kane like the famous NASCAR driver.  Why you ask???  Cause I LOVE to run laps in the house and out in a big back yard.  I am looking for a forever home with someone who loves to run.  I would be perfect for someone who likes to jog or someone who likes to hike.  I would also like to have a hand at agility trials maybe.  I have to be honest with you.  I am not particularly fond of the little ones.  I get along with the youngins that start around 12 years old.  The little ones are too darn fast around me and I get nervous.  I have started to do tricks for my foster mom.  She has taught me to sit, lay down and roll over.  I am hankerin to do more tricks too.  I am UTD on my shots, heartworm tested negative and just went under the knife so I am a kinder, gentler feller.  So whata ya say.  Wanna give it a shot???  Just give these nice folks a call and we can get the ball rollin:  4schips@schipperkerescue.net.

PEARL - MARYLAND  - MD

Pearl is a VERY affectionate dog. She wants to be in your lap getting loved as much as possible. She truly is a lap dog, and is content to snuggle on the couch or in bed watching TV in the evening after a tiring day of playing.

She is a typical Schip puppy with tons of energy and curiosity. She keeps our 3 year old male Schip very busy running around the yard, wrestling, and digging. She is extremely smart and learns things quickly. She is very athletic - really a little acrobat. She could be taught some really cool tricks or would make a great agility dog, and she would be very happy in an active household.

She gets along with all of our dogs, and I do think she would be happiest with other dogs in the house. She is submissive to larger dogs, but she's not totally soft because she will growl softly if anyone comes near her while she's eating or if she has a chew toy and thinks they might take it. But she has never gone after any of the dogs in any of those instances - she just gives them the warning, and they back off. I wouldn't recommend that she live with a very dominant dog because she gets intimidated easily.

Pearl is a good little watchdog and will alert you to unusual sounds in the house (and often the usual ones too!) She is wary of new people but fine with them once she has a time to get to know them. She is definitely more wary of children - the smaller they are, the more nervous she gets. She has not had much exposure to children here, but she will sniff them curiously if they are around so I think she will do fine with older children.

She needs to be in a home where someone is home most of the time or she has other dogs to keep her company. She is very social and active and will find ways to keep herself busy if you don't provide her with enough company and exercise

GISELLE - Georgia  - GA

Are you looking for a heart dog?

My name is Giselle. I am a heart-dog-in-waiting. I love my foster mom and want to be with her all the time. I like to cuddle and get belly rubs. But I’m very patient and just lie down nearby when she’s busy.
I’m very athletic. I can run fast and jump high! I love to go for walks, and do well on a leash. I’m a good watchdog, too, but I don’t bark at the neighbors.
When she goes to work my foster mom leaves me here with the other dogs. I use the dog door to go potty. And I don’t chew things up, either. I stay in a crate at night, and I go right in for my cookie. I’m such a good girl!
I came from a very scary place. So I have some fears that will take me time to overcome. I’ve made a lot of progress, but my new family will need to continue to work with me. Children were allowed to harass me most of my young life, so I should not go to a home with small children. I am terribly afraid of cats, but I’m getting used to the ones here. My biggest fear? The vet. I’m so afraid I can barely stand up, and they have to put a muzzle on me.
I get along well with the other dogs here, and I love to play. I do get jealous sometimes, and my mom has to remind me that kind of behavior won’t be tolerated.
I have a whole lot of joy to share. I promise to make you smile every day!

If you think I might be your heart dog, please contact my foster mom at jmcafee@numail.org

HASSENFEFFER - Georgia  - GA

Meet Hassenfeffer, who is an 11 yr old male. “Hass” is UTD on vaccines and heartworm negative. He is social with kids and animals.

Hass has had some family upsets and needs someone to give him a lasting home to live out his gentle life. While his family had to leave him behind due to Military deployment, a loving woman took him in, thinking she could hold him until his family returned. Once his family did return, they were unable to take Hass back and the kind woman that took him in had been diagnosed with cancer. Having dogs of her own and a serious medical condition, she is unable to properly care for Hass any longer.

Hass is not a spring chicken, but still has plenty of life left to live. All he needs, is your kind love and a place to snuggle down for the nights.

PLEASE consider offering this loving a boy a place to securely live out his life. Don’t forget, it is not uncommon for a Schipperke to live to be 18+ years, so Hass really isn’t that old.

PEPPER - VERMONT  - VT

Pepper is desperate to find his own home.  He's been in rescue for almost a full year and really needs his own human.

Pepper is a neutered male and is about 4 years old. He is micro chipped and up to date on vaccinations. Loves to go for walks and ride in the car. Also loves chin scritches and tummy rubs. Gets along okay with other dogs but, would prefer a home with no other dogs. A low key female may acceptable.  Seems to get along okay with cats, but has never lived with one. NOT good with small children. He may do well with an older child (over 12 years)  that knows how to properly act around a dog. Good at noticing birds even before you do and will keep your fenced in garden free of birds and other small pests. Loves to be with his person constantly and seems to be a one person dog. He will need an experienced Schipperke home with someone who is willing to continue working with him.  If interested in adopting Pepper or for more information please contact by email or phone.

Sex: Male
Age: Approx 5 yrs.

BUZZ - Idaho  - ID

I have had a 9-1/2 year old male Schipperke since he was a pup, but he now needs a new home.  A life change has resulted in a new home with a fence that will not keep this little guy in.  He keeps escaping the yard and is frequently found on a busy local street.  A replacement fence would be required which is too costly at this time.

The kids are grown and not around to provide him enough attention.  He's a sweet dog and will be a good companion in the right home.  Please rescue this sweet dog.

He has been known to snap at small children.  He loves to play with other dogs.  He loves to go for walks, car rides, and to play "keep away."

Urgent!  His current caretaker is no longer willing to keep him and returning him to my home puts him at risk of getting hurt in traffic.

CAPPIE - South Carolina  - SC

Cappie's owner has terminal cancer, and he has no other family to take him in.

Cappie has lived with a mom who allowed him to be the head of the house.  As a result, Cappie has some issues that he needs to work on.  He is human dominant and does not like to be disturbed.  He will growl, but has been know to bite and release.  But it was a strong bite.  He is quite playful when he is in the mood to be so.

Cappie needs a home that is understanding to the fact that he does not know how to follow human leadership and is used to being in charge.  Cappie would not do well in a home with small children or a home that is not knowledgeable and experienced in handling assertive dogs.

If you have a strong pack-leader home and experience in working with social needs and dominant aggression, Cappie, NEEDS YOUR HELP.

NIMUE - New Jersey  - NJ

Nimeau's family is having to move to the Virgin Islands and cannot take them.  Most of the family has already moved. Extended family members are with the dogs until September 10th.  Transport help may be available.

This couple is in desperate need of a foster or adoptive home NOW.   If you have a spot in your home for two nice younger seniors OR if you can foster them, please contact SchipFreak@schipperkerescue.net  ASAP!   They would not have a chance in a shelter – We NEED to find a safe place for them.  Nimeau is good with children and social.

FOXY - Virginia (South East)  - VA

Foxy was found as a stray a few weeks ago.  She wore no collar and has no Micro Chip.  An ad was placed in the paper for three days over the first weekend, in hopes her family would claim her. We called local Veterinarians in a radius of several miles, as well as the local SPCA and Animal control and gave contact numbers in case her family called.  No one called.

While we don't know how Foxy made her way to the city streets on a dark, rainy night, or where her family is, we do know that she has proven to be a very nice girl.  She does well in the house and made friends with the neighbors dog.  The family that found her and called rescue has been taking care of her and thought about keeping her.  Sadly, the landlord will up the rent a substantial amount if Foxy stayed, so they can't keep her.

Foxy is an adult female of unknown age.  She is probably somewhere in the 6 or 7 year old range.  Her teeth have been  well maintained and she is being scheduled for a visit to the Veterinarian so she can be fully vaccinated and Heartworm tested before adoption.

We don't know how Foxy would deal with small children, so she will be available for adoption  only to homes with no children under the age of 12 years old.

KATIE - Marriottsville,  - MD

Katie is 1 to 2 yrs of age, Spayed and UTD on Vaccinations. While Katie is a sweet little girl that gets along well with other dogs, she has an uncertainty about humans. Katie was one of the Kentucky Project dogs, that was more traumatized by her plight that most of the other Schips that were with her. She is fearful, not aggressive. She does not readily approach humans. If picked up (once caught), she is ridged and fearful, but does bite. Katie is not fully housetrained, but is about 90% housetrained.

Katie has made a huge amount of progress in her current foster home, but is now in need of a home that has a human that can devote more time to her as an individual.

Katie needs to moved to a progressive foster home or a special adoptive home, that has a quite, structured environment, with no children. One well balanced dog in the house would be fine, However, she will be more likely to bond to the other dog, rather than the humans in the house, so it will take a bit of extra effort, if she is not the only dog.

Katie will need a fenced yard, as she is not yet comfortable with a leash.

If you think you can provide Katie with a special, patient and quite home, (foster or adoptive), please contact:
Schipfreak@schipperkerescue.net.

MOLLY - Vermont  - VT

Molly’s owner passed away, leaving her with no one take her in.

She LOVES people, and wants nothing more than a human to curl up and watch a movie with, maybe a short walk or car ride (she loves the car).

She does okay with other dogs, but would do best with only one other dog or as an only pet .  She will sometimes growl at some other dogs, she's frightened of them, and will hide if possible..  She may do fine with a gentle dog, BUT will try to herd cats, so that's not a good idea!

It is not known how she will do with children, and is recommended that she not go to a home with children under the age of 15 yrs.

Molly is overweight and she's on Science Diet RD, which she loves.  She's lost some weight, but has a way to go...

If you have a place in your heart for loving girl that needs a little diet control.

ARBY - Memphis,  - TN

Hi there, My name is Arby and I am a sweet little boy. I was found running around an Arby’s roast beef restaurant, so they call me Arby. Lucky for me, they didn’t name me Roast Beef or the big monster dogs that I am living with would think I was lunch! Look at me! I’m cute! I am also a very nice boy that likes people and dogs (even the big ones). I love to run, but I don’t know when to stop all the time, so I do need a fenced yard and have to be on a leash if I am out of the yard. I would love a home of my own. It would be nice if my new home had active adults that would play with me or take me for walks. I probably would not mind an older child to share my space, but I would be happier if there were no small children. I have been through a lot and think a child under 12 yrs old might be a little trying on me.
The kind family that took me in will tell you that I am a rare find ! They would love to let me stay here, but they already have extra rescues and they think I would be better off in a home of my own.

I promise, if you love me and treat me well, I will love you and work hard to make you happy.

LUNA - Ft. Wayne  - IN

Wanted a home with maybe just humans or one quiet dog.

I need lots of attention and stimulation. I love to exercise so someone who walks and or jogs would be a great fit. I am loving and appreciate a good massage. I am a serious “outdoor adventure puppy” and loves the rain, sleet, snow, leaves. But mind you if given the opportunity I will do some adventuring on my own.

I sleep in my quarters if you want. I am a little noisy sometimes so I need someone who will take the time to continue my training. I’m trying; I read the Miss Manners book every day.

My foster mom found out that a fish oil capsule every day sure helps my skin and coat. So check out my photos and give these nice people a jingle if you wish to take me home.

Sincerely,

Miss Luna

SKIPPER - Slaughter  - KY

Hi, They call me Skipper. I was in a KY shelter where I found was very sick. I had severe mange that itched and hurt so bad that I was digging my skin and crying. I also had Heartworms. My owners called Animal Control and gave me to them. I guess my condition was too much for them to deal with.

One day a nice a lady named Jennafer came to the shelter to pick up two big dogs. Jennafer runs a rescue for big dogs, but when she saw me, she just couldn’t leave me there. She knew that no one would adopt an old man that was bleeding and almost bald.

Jennafer has been taking me to the doggie doctor for a while now. My mange is cleared up and I am having my last Heartworm treatment this week. I was left outside at my last home and never learned how to act inside ( poor potty manners). She hopes that once my Heartworm treatment is finished that I can be neutered and this will help me with my manners.

I do need a home and I need it really bad! You see, while Jennafer is so kind and loving, she has a rescue that is really full and is taking care of other dogs that are medical patients. Because of this, she has had to put me in her rescue kennels. While I do have room and a very nice insulated dog house to stay warm in, AND, I get to go every day and run around on the farm. I don’t have my own family to help me learn better house manners and be a special fur child.

I am loving, I love people, even the little ones. I like to be held and, I get along well with the dogs, here at Rowdy Rescue. My coat is coming back nicely, and I am very active. Jennafer says that I show no signs of stiff joints or any other problems.

All I need is my own home to help me learn how to improve my potty manners and let me love you. Please think about it. I know I am not young, but I am so happy to have a life and once again feel good, that I just want someone to share my appreciation of life without pain and illness with.

If you would be interested in helping me, please email Jennafer at rowdyrescue@qtt.net of Susan at schipfreak@schipperkerescue.net.

UPDATE – Rowdy Rescue has had a large intake and is out of space. A new home or foster home is badly needed for Skipper.

THEO - Atlanta  - GA

UPDATE
9/18/2010
Theo went to his new home last week, and so far, things are going very well. He’s behaving, and they love him to bits.

6/17/2010
Well, Theo went to an adoptive home, but, despite a prior meeting with the other dogs in the home, it turned out that he was just too much for him.  Here is what his foster mom said:

"Well, it was awfully quiet around here, but not anymore. Theo came home today. He was frightening one of the other dogs, so that she was hiding in the bedrooms and vomiting, and the elderly schip didn’t like him at all. He scared the one dog when he was playing with his toy. All the growling and pouncing on it was too much for her. They all met each other the week before, and everyone did fine together, so this was somewhat unexpected.

He’s an alpha dog, and needs to go to a home where that will be ok. I can tell you, he’s happy to be back here
!"

He’s very driven, and very food motivated. I really need to find him a JOB.

Clearly, Theo needs to be in a home that is active and experienced with a strong-willed, dominant dog.  So, if you think you are the right home for this LBD (in this case the D stands for 'devil'), fill out and send your application in and be sure to mention Theo.

Theo is 2 years old, neutered and up-to-date on all vaccinations. He is a very alpha male, super-smart, confident, with high food and toy drive. He plays rough with other dogs, and will occasionally snap or growl at them over food, but otherwise gets along with them ok. He does best with a well-controlled feeding routine. He takes food very politely by hand, and knows to sit for treats and dinner.

Although Theo loves playing with older children, he will bite at their hands or growl if he doesn’t want to be picked up or grabbed. He will not be placed in a home with younger children. Older children should be dog-wise.

Theo is very sweet, and very devoted, as long as he respects your dominance. He will need a very consistent owner, preferably one who has dealt with an alpha dog before. He is very friendly with people, but he does take his watch dog job seriously.

Theo is crate trained and housebroken. He is a medium-sized schip, weighing in at 16-17lbs. He is not destructive, and can be trusted alone in the house. He is being fostered with cats, and has learned not to chase them, but there is still a mutual dislike.

To see Theo in action with his toy, check out his YouTube video:

If you think Theo might be the right dog for you, please contact Jan McAfee at jmcafee@numail.org.

CAPTAIN - FT. WAYNE  - IN

Hi, my name is Captain. Yes. that is like a captain of a ship because I am just one happy sailor right now.  This nice lady came and took me from some not so nice living conditions and cleaned me up proper including my teethes. They aren’t all there but what is there is cleaned and polished. I am very docile, calm and quiet. I love attention, being touched, patted and rubbed and will come up and put my right foot in the air or lay it on you as to say hello. I never bite or to grab food and I am a very grateful little man. And get this......I am house broken and come when called!! I think I would be a very good dog for someone who wants companionship and prefers calm & quiet. So give these nice folks a jingle and let’s get the ball rolling.

Sincerely,

Captain

WILLOW - Ft. Wayne,  - IN

Hello,

My name is Willow. Yes it is a pretty name. It describes me to a T. I am a very pretty girl who has been staying with some great people. They have had me for a while working on my etiquette. I used to be afraid of people now I like them a lot. I can still be shy around new people but once I get to know you I am up on the couch asking for scritches.

I am a svelte 13 lbs with a gorgeous tail to boot. My people like to rub my back and give my tail a rub too. I am UTD on all my shots. I eat real good too. I am crate trained and love to sleep with the people on their bed at night. I get along swimmingly with the other dogs in their house. I love to play and I have a fondness for balls.

But I do have one small problem. I am not 100% house broken. I often have “accidents” in the house. But in the bedroom the nice people put puppy pads down on the floor, they call it a landing strip, and I do my business on the pads at night time. Now I’m not a perfect aim, but for the most part I get my business on the pad!!!

I love to run outdoors and am looking for someone who will run with me. Or at least take me on daily walks. I need a lot of exercise to keep my girlish figure. So give these nice people a call and lets meet.

Yours,
Willow

Buddy - Lancaster  - PA
BUDDY UPDATE
HAPPY ENDING!

Buddy is in the foster home that he was first moved to back in December.

He’s a sweet boy, but has some underlying medical conditions that require continued medical care, and regular checkups, to maintain a full quality of life. He is also in the process of losing some excess weight, which we hope will help him have a prolonged quality of life. He is deaf and going blind, but has learned his way around quite well. He has made friends with the other dogs at his foster home and is becoming more active and playful each day. We believe he has the chance to continue a life of quality and happiness with the proper medical support.

He is not being placed for adoption due to his need for continued medical care, which without, would certainly degrade his quality and longevity of life. Therefore, he will remain a ward of rescue as a permanent, special medical needs member of Schipperke Rescue.net, Inc.

If Buddy’s story has touched your heart, and you have means to help, please consider helping us help Buddy and others like him through donations. We know times are hard on many and we also feel the financial strain of the current economy. If you are one those people that hard times has not affected and you want to help Schipperkes in rescue or Schipperkes in homes where the economy has hit hard, we will be grateful for your compassion.

Donations are used to help pay for vet care that is beyond the normal, such as seriously injured dogs. Donations also help feed and vaccinate Schipperkes that are in homes that have been hit with job loss or serious illness. Without this support, these Schipperke’s would lose their homes and families. Donations are also used to help us offset the medical cost of Schipperkes, like Buddy, that would otherwise face either a life of pain or illness, or face euthanasia.

If you have the ability to help, PLEASE HELP US SAVE A LIFE. No amount is too small.

Please remember, there are many ways to help save a Schipperke in need. Money is just one part of it. Rescue is always in need of volunteers to help transport, foster, perform home checks or evaluate a Schipperke in need.

If you are able to help in any of these areas, please contact us and let us know what you can do, so we can help you, help us.

Thank you for your support.

Hi, my name is Buddy,

and I am 11 yrs. young. I live with my mom who loves me very much and has taken really good care of me. Sadly, my mom recently found out that she has a terminal cancer. Her doctors say that she has only a short time left. I am hoping that we will get to have Christmas together. My mom is the lovely woman you see in the photo’s with me. I just wouldn’t take a photo without her.

I love my mom and I will not leave her. I will stay with her as long as she has.

While I worry about my mom, she worries about me. My mom worries about what will happen to me when she is no longer around to take care of me.
Mom wants me to tell everyone what a good boy I am and I that I love to go for walks and eat cookies. Mom and I don’t get to take so many walks now that she is weak so I have a little bit of a cookie belly, but once I am back to taking walks, it will go away again. I am a strong, healthy boy that just loves to love humans.
I am very dedicated and loyal.

If you are a kind loving human that would like to share your life with a dedicated, loving boy like me, please let us know. It would make my mom so happy to know there is a special home waiting for me. Knowing there will be someone waiting for me would be the best Christmas gift my mom could get.

Sincerely,
Buddy

RENNY - Haymarket,  - VA

Hi, I'm Renny!.  I love everyone!  I like to play with children, other dogs, and even cats.  I love to go for walks, but I could use a little obedience training because I'm pretty stubborn about wanting to go in MY direction, so I pull.  I like to say Hi! to absolutely everyone, and I also insist upon alerting the media.  Okay!  Okay!  So I'm a little over exuberent with my alerts, but it does make me a great watch dog.

I love to run and play, so I'll probably only be happy if you have a fenced yard, cause I like to chase squirrels or go exploring if I'm not contained.

As you can see, I LOVE to ride in the car, but I really don't like other wheeled vehicles, and I'm not real crazy about the people riding on them, like motorcycles, bicycles, skateboards.  I want to warn them out of my neighborhood!

I am crate trained and will even stay in my crate (as long as you put a radio near me for company) during the day or overnight.

Please call if you are lookiong for a fun playmate!

JELLY BEAN- Lancaster  - PA

Jelly Bean is a sweet little girl who needs a forever home. Jelly Bean is a puppy mill survivor who spent her entire life in a cage with other dogs. No one played with her, gave her treats, or loved her.

When she arrived at the Humane League she was placed in a foster home where she has worked on walking on a leash, playing with toys, and house training. She has also adjusted very well to the resident dogs in her foster home and she also enjoys the children who live in her foster home.

If you would like to give this beautiful girl a forever home, please contact Lori Kelley at lkelley@humaneleague.com or 717 393- 6551 ext. 231

DALLAS  - NC

Dallas is an owner assisted placement, that is not fully in rescue. Her family has had some major life changes and she was unable to adjust to the new home and situation.

Dallas is good with cats and people. She is a food hog and will try to steal or beg for food and dig the trash can for goodies and paper, but will leave people belongings alone.

Dallas is a strong, dominant dog that has developed issues with other dogs. She can be pushy and will growl and nip at other dogs that get to close to her. She will not back down from a challenge. Due to this, Dallas needs to go to an adult home with no other dogs or small children. Older children are fine and she seems to do well with them if they have respect for a dog.

She loves to be close to a person and feel them touching her. She also loves to be brushed. Dalla is house trained, crate trained and loves to go for walks.

Corky - Bellaire  - MI

Neutered male Schipperke, about 15#. Owner died and daughter cannot keep him. He is independent like a Schip, and can be obstinate at times. He is fully housetrained and has had obedience training...knows sit, stay, come, wait and will go into his crate when requested. He does not bark as such, but rather quacks and will make grumbling noises. He has a charming personality and will be cuddled. He has played with the grandchildren in the previous home and does get along with other dogs in the foster home. He does limp occasionally with an old injury to his right front paw.

LULU - Ft. Wayne  - IN

Meet Miss Lulu. She is our newest rescue. Lulu had to be given up by her owner because her owner wasn't able to physically care for her.

She is a great little girl, probably 8 lbs or so, has a cute little tail and is full of energy and mischief. She was born in November of 09 so she is 7 months old, UTD on her shots and is in good health that we can tell.

She is shy at first when meeting people but will come around in time. I think she is partial to the men folk. Her housetraining is work in progress but that is the only problem that we can see. She does well around other dogs and cats.

For more information, please contact 4schips@schipperkerescue.net.

LuLu LoveBug  - CA

LuLu is a kind and gentle soul who does not like being around loud noises. She is   very cautious, but will sit for hours if you pet her.

In Schipperke fashion, she is always on alert and listens to every sound in the neighborhood. She is house trained and uses a doggie door, but she piddles every now and then when she is excited we are home.

She is in great health and can run for miles and miles (needs to be kept on a leash). She learns quickly and is easily trained.

Roxie  - KS

Roxie is believed by all who have had one to be a full blooded Schipperke, although she came to our home at 6 mo. of age from the Kansas Humane Society. She is an excellent watch dog. She does bark at strangers and is nervous around children, but has not bit anyone. She loves to go for walks and to have her belly rubbed (she will close her eyes as if she is in heaven). She has lived with 2 - 3 other dogs and hasn't had problems, but I believe she would be happier in a home where she could be center of attention. She is not due for Rabies until 2012. Parvo and Distemper are due in August. Not on heartworm preventionFor more information, please contact earldixie@sbcglobal.net.

NICK  - FL

He is fully vetted and micro chipped. Nick is crate trained and housebroken with no accidents since he has been with us. Nick loves to be the center of attention and is quite the love bug. He would love to be in your lap for hours. He plays great with other dogs, however he does show an extreme interest in cats. While he does not hurt them, he does want to chase. If the cat defends herself,Nick will leave them alone. Nick passed all temperament testing with flying colors, no resource guarding, food agression, easy to bathe, groom and clip his nails. Nick acts like a typical goofy(slightly naughty) teenage schip. He likes to meet new folks, he loved the vet Nick would do best in an active home that is schip saavy. He would LOVE to have a playmate. Nick fits in the middle of my pack, not overly dominant, but yet not submissive. He would not do well home alone all day without a playmate. New objects can frighten him initially, however he adapts well in a reasonable amount of time.

PATTI - Wolfeboro  - NH
PATTI is an approximately 9-year-old sweet-as-pie girl!! Smart and loving, she's a real charmer who loves attention and is adept at trying to outsmart her humans. She's good with the other dogs, but will try and be just a bit bossy....then she backs down.

An energetic girl, who also likes her quiet time, PATTI is crate trained, but does prefer to sleep out. PATTI would do best in an adult-only home, but would be happiest placed with OSKAR, her 12 year old Schip companion.

Although she's extremely hard of hearing, she's adjusted well. Up-to-date on all vaccinations and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative, PATTI has recently had dental and senior bloodwork, with all numbers good. PATTI and OSKAR will be wonderful additions to any adult home...especially someone home a lot, as they both love to have people around. For more information on adopting PATTI & or OSKAR, please email Karen at dogs4nh@yahoo.com.or Susan at schipfreak@schipperkerescue.net.

OSKAR - Wolfeboro  - NH

OSKAR is around 12-years-old and is as loving a dog as his foster has ever seen! A total sweetheart who attaches to people very quickly, he's quite smart and has the rhythm of the foster home all figured out. He's very good with the other dogs, but should not be considered with cats.

OSKAR has limited sight, but finds his way around easily; he has a severe dry eye condition which requires multiple daily treatments (which he readily climbs up to receive).

Totally up-to-date on all vaccinations, he's recently had senior bloodwork and a dental, with all numbers good. On heartworm and flea/tick preventative, OSKAR is crate trained and good in the house with only an occasional correction needed for scent marking. He would love to be placed with PATTI, as they have always been together. For more information, please email Karen at dogs4nh@yahoo.com or Susan at schipfreak@schipperkerescue.net

WICKET - Collegeville  - PA

Wicket is a 12 year old spayed female.  She is UTD on vaccines, goes to vet annually, but is NOT on HW preventative.  Wicket does have a recurring lick granuloma (sore caused by licking) on her left front leg, cause unknown. Otherwise she has no known injuries/illnesses.

Wicket is house trained, good with cats, older children, and very obedient.  She is not good with new dogs or small children.  Initially, she is quite shy, but quickly warms up to strangers

Wicket is NOT a barky dog.  She loves to go for walks.  She has an overall calm temperament with some playful spells. She does like to play ball.

She is not crate-trained.  Instead, sleeps on the floor in a corner of bedroom.  She not a lap dog, however, she LOVES to sit next to you and be petted.

Wicket LOVES to be brushed, and is accustomed to a Dremel for nail-trimming.

Wicket needs to be relocated within the next 1-2 months before baby begins to walk.  She is located in Collegeville,PA

Do you have room in your heart for this sweet, loving, lady?

JACQUES - Winter Park  - FL

Jacques is a 5 month old Schipperke pup. He is brother to both Lucinda and Clipper.

Dogs of this breed usually weigh 3-9 kg (7-20 lbs). Puppies are born with tails in different lengths; and, in Canada and the United States, the tail is usually docked the day after birth. In countries that have bans on docking, Schipperkes display their natural tails, which curve over the back of the dog (if the dog is happy and the tail is long enough). Known for a stubborn, mischievous, and headstrong temperament, the Schipperke is sometimes referred to as the "little black fox", the "Tasmanian black devil", or the "little black devil." They are naturally curious and high-energy dogs and require ample exercise and supervision. Schipperkes are very smart and independent; and sometimes debate listening to owners, instead choosing to do whatever benefits them the most. Schipperkes require training and a secure, fenced-in space to run.

Clipper will be neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations before he goes to his new home.

Cortny - Bridport  - VT

Cortny is deaf and is learning hand signals and to respond to a flashlight. She might do best in a home with another dog, loves to ride in the car, or go for walks. Seems to like children, okay with cats, good with other dogs, housebroken, likes to be held. Excellent eyesight and notices everything. Quiet but does have loud bark when she wants something or sees a lot of movement. Likes to roll over on her back and make funny noises (makes me laugh every time she does it). Very food motivated.

KAYLA - Topping  - VA

Kayla is sadly in need of a home. Her human mom passed away after suffering a severe stroke. Kayla has been safe with a boarding kennel that she is familiar with and has visited through out her life, but the kennel owner would like to see Kayla have a real home of her own, in a house, not in living as a kennel dog. Kayla is a really sweet girl that gets along with other dogs. She is a senior and would do best is a home that is overly busy. If you an open heart for this sweet little girl, please contact us. Kayla is spayed and has the current vaccinations as needed for a senior dog.

PAIGE - Muncie  - IN

If your heart desires a dog that prefers to be with you 24/7, then this Schipperke is for you! No matter where you are, she prefers to be with you. Her name is Paige and she is 4.5 years old.

She is currently in a foster home in Muncie, Indiana & has been for the past 4 months. She comes from an owner that had her since she was 6 weeks old. She knows how to sit, come and stay and is potty trained. She enjoys sitting on your lap, being petted, playing with toys and car rides. She ADORES car rides.

Paige mostly enjoys being an inside dog, especially in questionable weather. She will go outside to potty, but pretty much wants to come right back in. In nice weather, she does enjoy going for walks on a harness, chasing toys and running in a fenced yard.

She is a large Schipperke, weighing 19-20#, but does not look overweight. She stands tall with a larger frame.

Paige has been spayed, has no known medical problems, is current on vaccinations, is heartworm negative and is on heartworm/flea preventatives year around. She does need to go to a home where there are no other pets as she prefers to be the alpha dog. She would be a wonderful companion for someone wanting company, loyalty and watchdog qualities. She shows her appreciation by being very affectionate.

Please find it in your heart to give her a chance! She will win your heart with her sweetness. Please feel free to call my cell# @ (765)749-8074 for more information. Thanks! Holly Baker

CAPTAIN - Chisago City  - MN

Captain is a purebred schip we purchased as a pup and has been a family pet for 6 years. He was trained and shown in 4-H and AKC and is a champion agility jumping dog for his height class of 11". We now have large hunting dogs - coon hound and lab - and Cappers is no longer in charge. His temperment is typical in that he wants to be boss, however his pint size is a problem with other dogs around as he is constantly run over. He would be a great companion in a home where he is the only critter, or has a like-size playmate. He is most content un-kenneled. Adults are best, no children. Captain is a personable and good-looking little dog who needs a quiet and confident handler for a companion.

RAVEN - Chesapeake  - VA

Raven is a typical over active youngster. Raven was found wondering the streets of Norfolk. A nice lady bailed Raven out of the shelter to save from euthanasia. Raven is currently spending 12+ hours in a crate due to human employment.

Raven needs to be in a home where she can have more time out of a crate and getting exercise. Raven does well with other dogs and will submit to an alpha dog. Raven is in no way aggressive, but is a bit timid until she is adjusted to her environment. Raven needs a home that knows how to train and structure an active pup. She is currently learning basic commands.

Raven is UTD on vaccinations, HR negative and spayed.

Brett-Ashley - Winchester area  - VA

Brett-Ashley is a very sweet tempered, petite little girl who came from a backyard breeder situation in TN. She even has a cute tail! She has been in foster care for six months, during which time she has become extremely well socialized and trusting of humans. She was in very run-down condition when she was rescued due to having had a litter of pups six months earlier and not having good nutrition or medical care. Her coat is slowly starting to come back, and she is a very lively and playful girl.

Brett loves to cuddle and would enjoy sitting on your lap all day ... well, when she's not ripping apart a plush toy. Brett is crate-trained, and is now house-trained. She enjoys going for walks on a leash and harness. Brett is an exceptional dog as she gets along with all other dogs ... even a very feisty bitch at her foster home!

Spinner - Richmond  - VA

Spinner is a happy sweet dog, that has done well with older children. Spinner loves attention and is a happy go lucky kind of boy that literally spins with excitement. The perfect home for Spinner would be a home that wants a true friend and companion that loves having a pet near by on a regular basis.

Spinner is a jumper and requires a fence of at least 4 foot in height. Spinner is also a runner and cannot be off lead, or he will go exploring without his human companion. This need to explore is how Spinner ended up in the shelter in the first place.

Spinner will do fine with a female dog, but does not like dominant male dogs and will growl at them, as well as not back down from a challenge.

Spinner is crate trained and will do best in a home that is willing to use a crate for overnight sleeping and when he will not be supervised. (such as a shopping trip).

Spinner does like to ride in a car, but absolutely must be harnessed or crated. He WILL bolt out of the car if not secured.

While Spinner sounds like a handful, he is the sweetest boy you will ever find! If you think you have what it takes to give Spinner the life he deserves, please email us.

For more details about Spinner, please read his full story on our Special needs page.

While Spinner is now cleared of his pneumonia, he still has a few problems. The good news is that these problems do not have any affect on his daily life. Spinner's trachea is slighty enlarged, but he has no problem eating or drinking. Spinner can not be led with a neck collar and requires a harness to protect his trachea. Spinner also has a very minor hint of enlargement to his heart. However, he has no symptoms associated to this enlargement.

Sophie  - VA

Sophie is a precious, energetic, "Wild Child" and is about 6 months old. Sophie is all puppy in attitude. She is wide open, or asleep, with no in-between. Sophie gets along with other dogs, but is demanding and will wear out a low energy dog. Sophie is in foster care with an 11 month old pup and wears him out daily.

Sophie loves people of all sizes. She is crate trained, mostly potty trained. ( Uses a pad at times) While Sophie is a handful for now, she has a wonderful temperament, loves human attention and will be the love of your life if allowed to be.

Sophie has a few area's of "work needed" She can be food protective. She is hard headed and challenges the need to learn manners. She has not yet passed that "puppy chews on everything" stage, and she excites very easily. Sophie will do well in any home that has the time and patience to gently train her to the rules of the house.

She is extremely fast and will play the "chase me" game, so will need to go to a home with a fenced yard. I do not recommend she go to home with toddlers or babies. I expect that Sophie will most likely be a 16 to 18 pound adult.

TINKER TOY - Fondly "Tinker the Stinker"  - PA

2

Meet Tinker Toy – aka, fondly, "Tinker the Stinker"

Tinker is the sweetest, most lovable, animated little brat you will ever meet. A total charmer, he is truly a special little boy.

Tinker is also, probably, the most expressive little boy, I have ever had the privilege to meet. He is adorable both in appearance and attitude.

Now for the fun part. Tinker is determined to be #1. Well, maybe not actually BE #1, but he does love to needle those he sees as top dog, especially if he has another dog who will back him up (read: do the dirty work). Gee, maybe he’s a very small loan shark!

He is playful with other dogs, BUT, once he is comfortable, if he feels another male is holding that #1 spot, he can become a big trouble instigator. Tinker will absolutely get on another male’s last nerve if he thinks that dog is even close to taking away his #1 spot. And he will tell the world about it – at top volume – high-pitched volume. 

When Tinker is released from his crate after a meal (he’s fed in a crate to make sure he doesn’t try to swipe food from everyone else), he NEEDS the world to know he is there. He will screech with cries of freedom, attack and over time obliterate the nearest small (or medium-size) rug he can grab. His small size will not stop him from dragging a 3ft by 5ft rug from one room to the next, growling, singing and chewing it the whole time – a true rug-killer!

Tinker is also an explorer and a true professional at finding ways to gain access to blocked counter tops. Of course, while there he will steal the food, the keys, the remote control, or anything else he knows you don't want him to have. To his credit, when yelled at, except for the food, he drops them almost immediately.

Tinker requires his humans to have a great sense of humor, and a fair amount of patience wouldn't hurt either.  Oh, yes, and his nose is the perfect size to clean the bottom of your yogurt cup.

Tinker will love anyone, big or small. He loves your lap, your chest, your shoulder – even your head makes a nice perch. He needs a "hands on" human that will love him and cuddle with him. At the same time, he is a little adorable brat that will entertain you with his sassy, naughty boy, "Hey look at me" attitude.

Tinker will do great in any home with love, humor and time to be affectionate with him. He will do well with a playful, non dominant female dog large or small, but would do best not sharing his home with a male. Tinker does possess a unique art of getting female dogs to help him torment male dogs that Tinker thinks are to important to the human members of the household. This is why Tinker needs to be the only male dog.

If you are looking for an adventure full of fun, laughter and love, with a side dish of hilarious naughty attitude. TINKER IS YOUR DOG.

SAMMIE - Lyndhurst  - VA

Sammie is a really nice dog ! Sammie comes when called and sits. She loves people and is eager to meet and greet other dogs. Sammie is simply a happy dog. Sammie is not completely housebroken, but she is smart and willing, should be an easy fix. She is pretty easy to read. When she is inside and gets figgety, that usually means that she needs to go out. She would rather not mess in her run and will wait to have her exercise time. Sammie was treated for Lymes, but has no symptoms or problems associated with Lymes. Sammie is a larger Schipperke, but not to large. Sammie is a happy, healthy girl that is ready for her own home and family. If you are looking for a happy Schip to complete your home, please let us know.

JAKE - Bethlehem  - PA

Jake is an adorable smart charming friendly affectionate happy 8 mnth.Schipp pup with no 'issues'. Jake is easily trainable, loves to be carried and held, is housebroken, and is very quiet, unless someone passes the window. Jake gets along fine with the five other Schips in his foster home, although his need to play play play may annoy a low key, or senior dog. Jake WILL take all his cues from any other dog in the house. He loves to jump and splash in his wading pool, and in his water bowl if he gets the chance.... He may have a high prey instinct as evidenced by his reaction to the garden critters...so cats could be iffy. He will instantly become a mommy's/daddy's boy, which is typical of a male Schipp. Jake has not been exposed to children. Due to this and his small size, we are looking for a more adult home with no small children for Jake. Older children, should be fine. PLEASE NOTE - Jake IS a puppy. He can be a four-legged rubberband at times, the house is his racetrack, he will take some time to become a gentleman on a leash and although he knows 'no' and' sit' and 'drop' and other commands he needs to know, as with all pups, he needs to be reminded...A lot Jake will need a fenced yard due to activity level and need to run. Jake is Neutered, extremely healthy, up to date on ALL shots...HW neg.

ROXIE- Reading  - PA

Roxie is a really sweet, very active little girl. Roxie enjoys playing with other Schipperkes and has been a companion to a large breed dog in the past. Roxie has done very well with smaller children visiting her foster home (supervised).

Roxie is also a great nurse maid, and will attach to a person that is napping or feeling ill. Roxie does require a fenced yard, due to her activity level. Roxie also does not do well in a car. Roxie gets "real" car sick, even on an empty stomach.

Overall, Roxie is a great dog, that will make a wonderful companion in just about any home. Roxie does not travel well in the car and is subject to vomiting, she will throw up foam and mucus even if her stomach is empty.

DIANA - Austin  - TX

Diana is one of twenty surrendered to rescue as a group. Diana entered her foster home life rearing to go. She quickly learned life with human touch and air conditioning was something she was going to like. Diana is affectionate, happy, and lively. Diana's first vet visit revealed a grade 3/6 heart murmur, but she is otherwise healthy. She has been fully vetted and spayed. Her prognosis is for a full normal life. While Diana still needs some education on living with humans, she is a straight A student and will be a wonderful addition to an adoptive family.

THUNDER - Hockley  - TX

Thunder is a love bug in the making. Although still skittish, Thunder is slowly learning about the world outside of a puppy mill. He is getting bolder about coming out of his crate and exploring, although any unfamiliar noise will send him running back to his crate to hide. He has learned about the joys of having his ears scratched, and will tolerate lying on his back in your arms to have his belly rubbed for a little while. Thunder is getting very good at coming when called, but is still undecided about being brushed. Thunder is fully vetted and will be neutered before adoption.

BONNIE BLUE - Atlanta  - GA

Bonnie is a 6-7 year old blue schipperke who spent most of her life in a puppy mill. She was dumped at a kill shelter when she could no longer produce puppies. Because of that, she has a hard time trusting people. But once she learns to trust, she loves being around you! Another side effect of being caged for so long is that she is very grateful for and loves her freedom. Every day is a joy for this girl and she wants to share that with her person. It's like having your very own little ray of sunshine.

Bonnie had surgery at the beginning of the year to repair a painful luxating patella. Because of this, she has a difficult time doing more than a few stairs. Anything other than a one-story home would be difficult for her, and would put added stress on her joints. She has completely healed from the surgery, but should be on joint supplements for the rest of her life to help with the resulting arthritis.

She gets along well with other nice dogs. She completely ignores cats. Although she walks nicely on a leash, a fenced yard would be best for this girl, as every morning starts with a run at top-speed!

Bonnie is spayed, up-to-date on vaccines, heart worm negative and on preventative. She is housebroken and crate trained. An adult home would be best for Bonnie.

TOBY - Lyndhurst  - VA

Toby is a good boy! Toby had a strained start on life. He went to his first real family, and then lost them due to the harsh economy. Toby was given to someone to be placed in a home and after a few months was moved. After only a couple of months, Toby was turned over to us. This is four homes, mostly short term homes, that little Toby has had and he is only 2 years old! Toby still needs some work with his housebreaking, but has not tried to lift his leg inside his foster home. He does seem to want to leave a message at the vet clinic and pet store, however. Toby is a little timid when he first meets people, but if he has a few minutes, he warms right up and wants to make friends. He doesn't like to be reached for and will generally back up (normal). We don't think he has had much exposure to small children and is very cautious about meeting them. Neighborhood children (5 and 8 yrs of age) and pretty active came to visit Toby. He was not sure he wanted to be anywhere close to them. Older children that aren't so active would probably be fine. Toby would probably do best in a home that does not have active small children. Loving, patient adults and older kindhearted teenage children would most likely make him happiest.

CHERIE - Valdosta  - GA

Cherie (Cher for short) is on of 20 Schipperkes turned into rescue as a group. While Cher came in very shy, she is blooming quite quickly. Cher is a chocolate Schipperke. She is spayed, up to date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative, and on heart worm preventative. Cher is a very, very sweet and playful Schip. She is doing very well with other dogs and loves to play with them. Cher is protective of her food when in her crate though; towards other dogs only, never at all towards people. Cher will need a securely fenced yard to play in, but she loves being a housedog. At her foster home, after her jobs and playtime, she makes a beeline to the door, ready to go back inside. Cher is doing well with coming when called, within the confines of our fenced yard. She will sometimes be a little slow to respond, but we have noticed that is when she still has some unfinished business to take care of. While we can't say Cher is 100% housebroken, she has been very clean in the house and also in her crate.

LUCIE (aka, LULU) - Woodstock  - VA

Lucie is one of the 20 Schipperkes that recently came into rescue. She is about 3-5 years old, is very friendly, learns new behaviors quickly ... but is very shy of new people. After a couple days, she warms up to her new humans. As you can see in one of the photos, Lucie has learned a new trick ... see how well she can sit! Lucie does learn very quick and is eager to please. She has learned to come when called, and sits promptly when she arrives. If you enjoy Obedience with rescue Schipperkes, then you might consider adopting Lucie. She is crate-trained and leash-trained. Alas, just as we were ready to integrate her into the household and get her house-trained ... she came into season! She will most likely house-train rather quickly.

KIBY - Shelbourne  - VT

Kiby is 8 to 10 years old, and is a sweet dog with people, but can be very dominant with other dogs. Kiby came from a puppymill and was a breeder dog, which is probably why she prefers that other dogs keep their distance. Kiby is a great people dog and would love a home where she can be the only baby.

DENNY - Valdosta  - GA

Denny is a 4-year-old male Schipperke who is being fostered in Valdosta, GA. He weighs about 14 pounds, and is one of the OK-20 rescues. Denny has a great, friendly personality, but he still is on the shy side when it comes to new people and new places. He has gotten along very well with our other dogs here. Denny's new home will have to have a securely fenced yard, as if he gets loose, he will be gone. Denny is up to date on all immunizations, neutered, negative for fecal worms and heartworms and is now on a heartworm preventative(Heartguard). He is also microchipped. Denny is available for adoption through SchipperkeRescueNet. YOGI - Johnson City  - TN

Hi, I'm Yogi and I find people to be quite comfy. I am the kind of boy who loves people and attention and sharing your space and oh, I also love sleeping in bed with a human. They are so warm.

I'm not sure how I ended up here. The people at the shelter said I was a "stray" and no one came to claim me. I am such a happy boy, I don't understand how I could ever have been a stray. I even do good with dogs.

I am a big boy and should be about 20 pounds. I need to lose a pound or two, but HEY, it's more to love !

I really want a home that will love me and let me be a real part of the family with full rights to the couch, the bed, and a human lap. But, mainly I just want to some humans to love who might love me in return.

PRADA - Salida  - CO

Prada is a female Schipperke who came to rescue from a puppymill situation. Prada is a small girl and will do best living with a woman and no other dogs. Prada is fearful of men and becomes protective of her female human.

Prada can do okay with a laid-back male dog, but is dominant with strong male and female dogs. We do think Prada will tolerate children well.

Prada is very loyal to a female human once she is settled. She would be great for a woman living alone who would like a companion that provides alert attention and a protective bark with a low growl.

Prada is not aggressive to women, but will bark and growl at men. She is aggressive towards female and strong male dogs. Prada will be a great friend and companion to the right woman.

CHLOE - Muncie  - IN
A D O P T E D !!!

If you are looking for a Schipperke that is young, vibrant and acts like a CLASS CLOWN..... then this Schip is for you!

Chloe is a black Schipperke and is two years old, has a curvy tail, and is full of spunk! She weighs between 13-14 pounds and originally came from a home where she was raised by a family with three young sons, therefore she ADORES children. She was surrendered due to a potty training issue.

Currently, she resides in Muncie, Indiana with her foster mom and 3 Schipperke housemates. Living in a foster home, she has been worked with daily for the past 6 months learning potty training RULES! She has been doing pretty well, but still sometimes needs a gentle reminder that she needs to go "outside to potty".

She gets along well with other dogs and enjoys playing with cats. Chloe is friendly to ALL people, but as a GOOD Schip should, at first she barks at anyone/anything new. She has been through obedience training at PetSmart and knows how to sit, come and stay.

Chloe is in good health. She is currently vaccinated, spayed and on heartworm/flea preventatives all year around. She did see a opthalmologist in Indianapolis a few months ago for squinting her eyes. She was diagnosed with KCS (Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca) which is simply........ dry eyes. In order to keep her eyes lubricated, Chloe requires an ointment to be put in her eyes once every other day. This is a treatment that she will require for life and does very well with it.

She enjoys "Spa days" meaning she is a peach to bathe and LOVES being blow dried.

This little gal craves attention and will plant herself on your lap for as long as you allow her to stay! She is crate trained and sleeps in a crate at night with one of her Schipperke housemates.

Please give this little gal a chance. She will warm your heart with her sweetness and silliness and be a wonderful companion to anyone! AND...as you can see from her picture..........she comes with her OWN SOFA, which she so adores lounging on!

HANNAH - New Orleans  - LA

Hannah is a lovely girl with a perfect personality who needs to be in a one-dog home.

I found her two years ago and she was heartworm positive. Since then, she has received treatment and is in excellent health.

She enjoys outdoors, long walks, rides in the car, and going to outdoor restaurants. She is very well trained and does not beg for food. I take her to the hardware store, to my favorite bistro, and even the bank where she is given treats by the tellers. Riding in my bicycle basket through the streets of the French Quarter is most definitely her favorite activity.

Her only flaw is that she does not get along with one of my other dogs. She is fine with my greyhound and small terrier type, but not with my oldest girl.

Hannah would be best served by being an only dog. She is a very loyal companion and does not enjoy “sharing” her masters with other animals. If she were my only dog, I would never think of giving her a new home. She is without a doubt the most intelligent, playful, alert, and loving girl I have ever known. Please contact me for more information and for pictures.

SHANIA & DEBBIE - Palm Beach Gardens  - FL

  <<= Shania          Debbie =>>

Shania and Debbie are 4 to 5 yrs of age. Both are very sweet, frightened dogs that came in as part of a 20-dog rescue. Shania and Debbie are co-dependent on each other and need to be able to "find themselves" in individual homes. We are looking for two foster homes or a single experienced foster home that can help these two girls develop as individuals, gaining self confidence and independence. Both girls have come a long way, however they are now at a standstill in their progress. They are currently unable to be off leash, even in a fenced area. If loose, they will not recall to a human. They are still quite insecure with human trust and bonding. Both Shania and Debbie need individual attention and space to learn that they can be strong and confidant as individuals. Adoptions are possible to homes experienced in training and structure of under socialized, puppy mill dogs.

JESSIE - Shelbyville  - DE

Jesse is a purebred Schipperke. She is a big, energetic girl, and will need a home that is active. Jesse is a dominant girl and will do best with a submissive male, or as an only dog. Jesse gets bored and frustrated when left alone for an extended amount of time. If Jesse is bored, she can be destructive. She requires a large wire crate and comes with her own. Plastic crates, buckets, fencing, and etc. are not safe with Jesse as she has the ability to chew and destroy them. Jesse will dig, but does not dig at fence lines. She’s not trying to get out, she is expressing boredom. Jesse is a good dog, however she is active and appears to have some separation anxiety, thus she needs to not be alone for long periods of time. She sleeps well in her crate and actually likes her crate, as long as she is not left in too long during the day. Jesse does take time to warm up to people, but once she does, she is quite friendly. The perfect home for Jesse would be an active home with no small children, no female dogs, Jesse as the only dog, or perhaps with one submissive male dog. Jesse would be a good dog for the jogger , regular walker, or hiker.

LOUIE - Burlington  - NJ

Louie is a very sweet, energetic 15 month old boy. He loves to play and chew on bones. Squeeky toys are his favorite. He is house broken and knows how to use a dog door. He gets along with other dogs & loves to romp & play with them. He is crate trained and will go to his crate to sleep or chew on bones. He is a busy dog and needs involved owners who have time to work with him. He has not been exposed to cats and would probably do best in a home without one. He is still learning people skills and will bark & fuss with people he has not met before, but he does settle down quickly. He is okay around older kids, but has not be exposed to children under 12. Overall, he is a healthy happy boy in need of a forever home.

PEDRO - Hoboken  - NJ
A D O P T E D !!!

Please meet Pedro !

Pedro is 9 years old. Neutered and up to date on vaccinations. Pedro has been displaced due to family death and illness. He is up to date on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention He has a fatty tumor over his right shoulder that has been checked and is not a medical concern, but is noticeable.

A word from Pedro's foster mom:

Pedro is a sweet older dog with lots of life left. He has been socialized with other dogs and does not show any aggression, but he is weary of strangers at first. He will join you on the sofa if you sit for too long and you will soon be his best friend. We are not sure how he would do with cats, and he is not great with energetic puppies. Although he likes to play, he does not play much with my other dogs as much as they try to engage him.

At first, he didn't understand the dog door, but he learned quickly and proved that you can teach an older dog new tricks. He is not a bed hog, and sleeps the whole night and often has to be coaxed out of bed long after everyone else has left. But don't let his lazy "attitude" fool you. His favorite pastime is collecting all his toys and stashing them on the sofa or making a pile of them outside on the deck. I am still trying to figure out who is borrowing my shoes . . . He also loves to chew on the small rawhide twists.

He does well on a leash, but he is a barker as most Schips are. He will even bark when he feels that your not paying enough attention to him. I find that a good rub and a treat is all he wants. When he is excited, he does spin especially at meal time.

Overall, he would do well in a calmer household and would make a great companion for an older person. If your looking for a dog to just hang out with you, he is the one.

KENYA - Millersville  - MD

This is a courtesy listing only. This dog is not a part of SchipperkeRescue.net, Inc.

Kenya is a bright, curious, and energetic female schipperke. She weighs 14-15 lbs, is spayed, and will be 8 yrs old at the end of 2012. She grew up living with a family of four but she now lives with just one of us and really needs more company and activity.

This is a friendly and affectionate little girl, but she is also very independent and likes to do her own thing. She is very clever and resourceful about getting what she wants (like food). She tends to be shy around strangers and larger dogs. She is generally more interested in exploring her surroundings than playing with other dogs. She barks if a situation makes her nervous and she “talks” when she is hungry, but she is generally a very quiet dog. She likes children and warms up to women quicker than men. She has not lived in a household with other pets; it is unknown how she would react to cats, for example. She would be submissive around a dominant dog.

She loves neck and ear rubs, a peanut butter-stuffed Kong, trips to the park, and being chased for fun. She dislikes grooming generally (toe-trimming, brushing), loud storms/fireworks, and facial hair or hats on men. She has chewed up any bedding we ever got her, so she sleeps at the foot of the bed or on other furniture in the bedroom.

Kenya is crate trained and accustomed to being crated when left at home alone. She has lived her whole life with access to a large yard with an Invisible Fence. She is accustomed to several daily walks. If she doesn’t get enough exercise or stimulation, she does get restless and may get into things she shouldn’t.

She is trained to all the common commands and she obeys well, but she is also impulsive and forgets herself. She is easily distracted by food!

Kenya is in good health and is up to date on all her shots and heartworm meds. She does have issues with urinary urgency and is on a weekly medication that comes from a compounder (a $20 prescription lasts 6 months) to help manage it. She will sometimes pee inside the house if no one responds to her efforts to get outside. (She would do great with a doggy-door; we never had a good place to install one).

All placement arrangements, all pet ownership responsibilities and legal liabilities are solely between the present dog owner/owners and the person/persons acquiring the dog from them. *

SchipperkeRescue.net, Inc cannot be held responsible for any damages or injuries occurred when meeting, visiting, during pre adoption or post adoption of a courtesy listed dog.

We highly recommend no one adopt a dog that is not proven to be vaccinated for rabies.

TRAVELER - Lancaster  - PA

Meet Traveler

This little stinker is definitely an alpha and ALL teenage puppy. Loves to play/fight, chase and play catch-me-if-you-can! He is also quite the snuggler and wants to be by your side all the time. He is still a little mouthy, although we are working on that. He's not snapping; he's using his mouth as a grabby hand.

Crates: not possible. Must have been kept in a crate and roughly thrust in there. Will fight and snap if forced into one. For traveling, it is better he be tethered.

Barking: YES, but only when seeing people walking dogs down the street. It appears it's not so much of a warning as it is, "I wanna go out, too!" He does love to go for long walks. He thinks a leash is his best friend. But don't try to leave a harness on him when he's not out for his walk. He'll chew it off before you can turn around.

He does not like to be picked up, especially from the front. In addition to being alpha, I think he was roughly handled. We are working on showing him that being picked up can be nice, but do it from the side for the time being.

Part alpha/part fear, he does not like being on his back in your arms. He will tolerate it with belly scritches for about 30 seconds, then he's struggling to get down.

The only time he snaps is when he is cornered. Here, again, he may have been pulled out of a crate or other places very roughly.  He calms down immediately if you have a leash in hand. However, some of the places he gets into (foot wells of the car, etc.) don't allow for easy hand access. I've found that a bungee cord with a plastic hook on the end looks like a leash to him, so he will accept your putting it on, but it is easier to get hooked on his collar in tight places.  Pulling gently on it will bring him right out where you can get a leash hooked to his collar.

He really is a lovely little dog who just needs having it reinforced that he is NOT the ruler of all he surveys, but he needs to be handled with love. He is also a jumper and a climber. He can jump a 30" baby gate and will climb gates with hard wire mesh. He really just wants to be where you are.

He is fully housetrained. When he first arrives, he will bark at a door to be let in (only in a fenced area - he's a runner if let loose). He will learn a pet door quickly if you have one to a fenced area.

On the whole he gets along with other Schips. I don't know about other breeds or cats. And ideal situation would be with a younger alpha female to help keep in him line. Being young, he wants to play all the time and will drive older dogs nuts with his energy.

Traveler has a wonderful, espressive face with the most beautiful amber eyes and the most adorable stub of a tail (yes, it appears natural). And he loves to lie at your feet, lick your bare feet, legs, whataver is available!

KEKE - Loveland  - CO

Meet Keke!

Keke is a 9-10 year old female. She weighs about 15 pounds, but may be slightly overweight. Keke's fur looks a little funny right now, as somebody shaved off her coat back in December or January. Her current foster family reports that Keke is very friendly and sociable with all people, however, she barks initially when meeting new people. She seems to especially like men. It is not known how Keke will do with young children, however, she has responded in an extremely friendly nature with teenagers who have interacted with her. Keke loves to swim and walks on leash. She was originally crate-trained, but now cuddles up in her foster owner's bed. Keke's foster family does not have any cats, but when she is in the yard, she sure likes to bark at the neighbor's cats and would love to chase them.

Keke's foster family reports that she seems to have a slight loss of eyesight that is apparent in darker conditions. She has two small benign fatty tumors that are not a health concern. Keke may be starting to experience minor arthritis pain in her joints.
